We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Lodging and Recreation to oversee and lead a diverse portfolio of properties and facilities. This role encompasses the wide-ranging responsibilities of supervising a seasonal lodging property boasting seventy cottages, a convenient store, and a café. The Director of Lodging will also oversee two Marinas equipped with 250 slips, fuel, and a repair facility, an expansive 1,200 sq ft waterfront property with 11 fishing cabins, and a sprawling 3,000-acre hunting habitat that serves as home to a variety of wildlife including whitetail deer, red stag deer, turkey, duck, and goose. This position offers a unique opportunity for a seasoned hospitality professional to lead operations across a diverse range of outdoor recreation and lodging settings.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong background in both hospitality and outdoor recreation management, with the ability to oversee and maintain high-quality standards across all properties. They should also possess excellent leadership skills, as they will be responsible for managing a team of employees across multiple locations.

The Director of Lodging and Recreation should also possess a passion for outdoor recreation and a deep understanding of the industry. This includes keeping up to date with trends and developments in the market, as well as continuously seeking ways to improve operations and guest experiences. In addition to strong leadership skills, the ideal candidate should also have excellent communication and problem-solving abilities. They should be able to effectively communicate with staff, guests, and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and oversee any issues that may arise. This role requires a direct approach, with the Director of Lodging and Recreation being actively involved in day-to-day operations at each property. They should also be able to adapt to changing situations and make informed decisions quickly.

Cottage, Convenient Store, and Café Responsibilities

• Oversee all operational aspects of the property including sales, reservations, housekeeping, food and beverage, grounds, recreation, retail, and property maintenance.
• Prepare annual budget and monitor financial performance throughout the year.
• Develop and implement strategies to increase revenue and profitability.
• Work closely with Marketing to develop a marketing plan to promote the property to potential guests including promotional campaigns and packages.
• Achieve the highest level of guest satisfaction by providing efficient and courteous service in all areas.
• Respond quickly and effectively to any guest complaints or problems.
• Work with the Operations Manager to create team member training programs to ensure that team members are meeting their job responsibilities in accordance with our standards.
• Fully responsible for the management, maintenance, and safety of all boats, and recreational equipment.
• Ensure all team members and guests follow proper safety policies and protocols when utilizing recreational equipment.

Marina Responsibilities

• Oversee all operational aspects of the Marinas including slip rental, fuel sales, boat storage, boat ramp operations, repair garage, ground, and snow removal (off-season).
• Manage cabin rental through VRBO including guest check-in, check-out, housekeeping, and maintenance.
• Prepare annual budget and monitor financial performance throughout the year.
• Develop and implement strategies to increase revenue and profitability.
• Achieve the highest level of guest satisfaction by providing efficient and courteous service in all areas.
• Respond quickly and effectively to any guest complaints or problems.
• Work with the Operations Manager to create team member training programs to ensure that team members are meeting their job responsibilities in accordance with our standards.

Waterfront Responsibilities

• Oversees all operations aspects including reservations, housekeeping, property maintenance, grounds, licenses and day pass sales, and snow removal in the off-season.
• Prepare annual budget and monitor financial performance throughout the year.
• Develop and implement strategies to increase revenue and profitability.
• Work closely with Marketing to develop a marketing plan to promote the property to potential guests including promotional campaigns and packages.
• Achieve the highest level of guest satisfaction by providing efficient and courteous service in all areas.
• Respond quickly and effectively to any guest complaints or problems.

Hunting Habitat Responsibilities

• Oversees all operational aspects including reservations, sales, herd management, and property maintenance.
• Ensures the herd is in good health and has annual Veterinarian checks.
• Purchase of trophy animals following NYS guidelines.
• Prepare annual budget and monitor financial performance throughout the year.
• Develop and implement strategies to increase revenue and profitability.
• Respond quickly and effectively to any guest complaints or problems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Hotel Management, or related field preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in a Hospitality or Recreation Operations Management role.
• Must possess superior guest service skills.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and administrative skills.
• Proven history of successful team leadership and development.
• Experience with marketing, budgeting, and purchasing.
